THE CONCORD BESTIARY

Concord Bestiary

The Gray Archive keeps field accounts of the beasts, spirits, predators, and stranger things encountered by Wardens across Vaelora. Entries are practical records rather than natural histories: what a creature looks like, where it hunts, what it can do, and what has kept previous Wardens alive.

Twiceborn Wolves

Twiceborn Wolves

These dire wolves are known as Twiceborn Wolves, creatures existing simultaneously as beings of flesh and spirit. Their bodies are unquestionably physical—they bleed, hunger, breed, and can be killed like other animals—but something from the Spirit Wilds has become permanently woven into their living forms. Unlike a possessing spirit, the spiritual essence cannot simply be driven out; it is as much a part of the wolf as its bones or blood.

Twiceborn are considerably larger and more intelligent than ordinary wolves, with powerful instincts for territory, hierarchy, and coordinated hunting. Their spiritual nature becomes particularly apparent around strong supernatural phenomena, where they can perceive spirits and disturbances that mundane animals cannot. Packs often establish territories around places where the boundary between Vaelora and the Spirit Wilds has grown thin, violently defending them from outsiders.

The Glimmer Beast
Concord field plate: the crystal horn is the defining identification mark and the source of the beast’s illusions.

Faerie Beast · Territorial Predator

The Glimmer Beast

The Glimmer Beast is a creature out of Faerie known for defending wild places with extraordinary violence. It does not merely inhabit a territory; it treats intrusion as a challenge and is willing to destroy those who push too deeply into land it has claimed.

Its most recognizable feature is the rare crystal horn set in the middle of its forehead. Concord accounts identify the horn as the source of the creature’s illusory abilities, making visual evidence around a Glimmer Beast unreliable and direct pursuit particularly dangerous.

Strange Creature · Blood-Feeding Predator

The Glassbriar

The Glassbriar is a strange predatory creature whose body resembles a mass of pale, translucent briars. It is not a creature of Faerie. When still, its glasslike growths can disappear almost completely into brush, ruins, and broken ground, allowing it to remain motionless until prey is within reach.

Its hollow thorns pierce flesh and draw blood directly into the creature. A feeding Glassbriar can recover from severe injury with alarming speed, while larger specimens can lash targets at range or erupt in a violent burst of thorns when surrounded. Concord field notes consistently recommend fire when one must be destroyed.

Primary Danger
Hollow bloodthorns and ranged thorn lashes
Distinctive Feature
Translucent briar-like body that darkens as it feeds
